FAQS
1. What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy helps children build the skills they need to participate fully in their daily activities, leading to greater independence and a better quality of life. Think of a child’s “occupations” as the main things they do each day, which are playing and learning.
At School Kids OT, we specialize in supporting the development of fine motor and visual motor skills. These skills are essential for building a strong foundation for play, writing, and successful participation in the classroom.
For children experiencing sensory processing or behavior challenges, I provide children with practical strategies such as movement breaks, calming techniques, and visual supports to help them navigate daily routines and successful transitions at school. Through collaboration with their teacher, I help embed these strategies into the school day for consistent and effective support.
2. What are signs my child may benefit from OT?
- Is your child over the age of 3 and still using a fisted grasp to hold a crayon and marker?
- Does your child have an awkward grasp that is causing their hand to get tired easily?
- Does your child have trouble coordinating their hands for tasks like cutting?
- Does your child avoid fine motor or writing tasks?
- Is their handwriting messy or hard to read?
- Do you feel your child is falling behind in fine motor skills compared to peers?
- Does your child have big reactions to changes or transitions?
- Does your child struggle with classroom routines or following directions?
If you answered yes to any of these, occupational therapy might help! Please schedule a free consultation here to see how I can support your child.
